The Colorado Ice Wizards are an active team on an off the ice. Our 48 players and their families have a lot of fun, and do a lot to give back to the community.  Following are some of our team’s activities.  Many of these are annual events.
Signing Party – Season Kick Off
Our season kicks off with our annual Signing Party. After careful evaluation by the Ice Wizards brain trust, those players deemed Wizard material (a desire to do their best and have fun) are offered a position on the team.  They are presented a contract, complete with small print. Once they have signed the contract, and their services are locked up for the season, everyone celebrates with yummy food!

Skate-a-Thon
Our annual Skate-a-Thon is our primary fundraiser. In 2020 32 players skated skated a combined 1,925 laps and again exceeded the fundraising goal. Way to go Wizards! A big thank you to members of the Stewards and other supporters in the community who helped sponsor our players.

Scrimmage with Denver Mustangs
On January 26, the Ice Wizards scrimmaged with the Denver Mustangs, a special hockey team playing at the DU rink.  Watch out, Mustangs, the Ice Wizards are casting a spell! Skateolio!

3v3 Flower League
Independent Skaters are either members of the Pink Carnations, Purple Pansies or Buttercups and scrimmage three against three.

Food and Book Drive
Every year between Thanksgiving and Christmas, our team collects food for the Sister Carmen food bank, and books that are placed in libraries in free libraries at food banks and service organizations.

Parade of Lights in Louisville
The Ice Wizards have marched in the parade of lights 4 years running.  One year we took up a whole block!  Alright, maybe we need to work on gap control, but we have fun, and our players always do a great job representing the team!

Teddy Bear Toss
Just like a lot of big league teams, the Colorado Ice Wizards held their second Benefit Hockey Game and Teddy Bear Toss, on December 14, 2019.  Fans and players were treated to games, face painting, and delicious goodies as prior to the game.  Fans enjoyed a fun and exciting game, as our Ice Wizards took on our good friends Royale with Cheese.  When the Ice Wizards scored their first goal of the second period, 350 bears and stuffed animals were tossed onto the ice.  All of these were donated to the Imagine! Holiday Gift Drive. Nice job to our entire team for putting on a great event.

Ice Wizards Receive First Jerseys
After one season with the Ice Wizards, players receive their first official Ice wizard jersey at no cost.  In 2019  four members of our team received their first jersey.  Congratulations to: Nathanael Betke (#10); Jonathan Derber (#15); Leigh Schafer (#99); and Shiou-Shiou Yang (#88). They all worked hard, and earned their jersey!

Scrimmage and Family Skate
It has become a tradition to hold a scrimmage for our players followed by a family skate on the Saturday preceding Christmas. This year it was December 22, and we had a great turnout . . . and some yummy treats!

Holiday Skate for People with Special Needs
This is a free event that our team sponsors, along with the YMCA, to give people in the special needs community an opportunity to go ice skating in a supportive environment.  This is the ninth year we have held this event, and 26 participants had a fun time navigating the ice. There were lots of smiles, and a lot of positive feedback. Our Coaches, players from the Independent Skaters, and members of the community did a great job supporting skaters.

Free Try Skate for People with Special Needs at the Longmont Ice Pavilion
In conjunction with SCOPE (Longmont Therapeutic Recreation), the Colorado Ice Wizards held their third Free Try Skate for People with Special Needs, at the wonderful, outdoor Longmont Ice Pavilion in February 2020. The Ice Wizards provided equipment and pushers.  Our coaches and players helped participants on the ice.  Fun was had by all!  We have held this Free Try Skate for approximately 5 years!

Mini-tournaments
TBA

Ice Wizards Greeter Table/Snacks
When players and their families arrive for practice they are greeted by a member of the team.  Information about team events and other hockey news is always available at the table.  After practice, players enjoy a snack and socialize with their teammates.

End of Season Party
The Ice Wizards always have a party to wrap up the season.  The past two years it has been a bowling party.  Turns out we have some awesome bowlers on our team –maybe we should enter a summer league!

Summer Scrimmages
The Ice Wizards hold 6 fun scrimmages during the summer for members of our Bridge Group and Independent Skaters.  The final scrimmage is open to all players and is followed by a BBQ and pool party.
