TEAM INFORMATION

Colorado Ice Wizards, in our 14th season, is a Special Hockey team for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The official name of the organization is "Rocky Mountain Special Hockey Inc.," but our player-chosen name is the Colorado Ice Wizards.
We have approximately 48 players, divided into three groups: Superstars (Beginner), Bridge Group and Independent Skaters.  All three groups form one, blended team. Once a player is steady on his/her skates and has achieved an adequate level of emotional and physical maturity, they join the Independent Skaters. We have a range of abilities in our Independent Skater group.
Our team focuses on teaching players the FUNdamentals of the game, emphasis on FUN! We play a no contact game with modified rules. We strive to maintain a low player-to-coach ratio.
The Colorado Ice Wizards keeps the cost of participation low. We provide previously-used equipment and a new helmet to all players. After their "rookie" season, players are given their first team jersey free. We have no required registration fee though players must register with USA Hockey (about $40-$60; first-time players' fee is waived). We make scholarships available.  Please don’t let cost stand in the way of participation.
We are an all-volunteer organization, and families are asked to help with fundraising and the operation of the team.
Colorado Ice Wizards play most Saturdays, October through April.  During the summer we have six fun scrimmages for players in our Bridge Group and Independent Skaters group.
PRACTICE

The Ice Wizards have 2 hours of practice on Saturdays, October through April.  The first hour is for our Superstars and Bridge Group.  The second hour is for our Independent Skaters.

ICE WIZARDS GREETER TABLE/SNACKS

When players and their families arrive for practice they are greeted by a member of the team.  Information about team events and other hockey news is always available at the table.  After practice, players enjoy a snack and socialize with their teammates.

END OF SEASON PARTY
The Ice Wizards always have a party to wrap up the season.  The past two years it has been a bowling party.  We have some awesome bowlers on our team!

SUMMER SCRIMMAGES
The Ice Wizards hold 6 fun scrimmages during the summer for members of our Bridge Group and Independent Skaters.  The final scrimmage is open to all players and followed by a BBQ and pool party.

ANNUAL EVENTS
The team participates in various events throughout the year. Our events include Signing Party, Food and Book Drive, Parade of Lights in Louisville, Teddy Bear Toss, Annual Jersey Ceremony, Scrimmage and Family Skate, Holiday Skate for People with Special Needs, Scrimmages with local teams, Mini-Tournaments and the Skate-A-Thon.
